Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PS3)
Modern Warfare 2 picks up the story where the original left off. I don’t want to give to much of the story away, but this time your as the game opens your goal is to take down a war criminal named Makarov. The single player is essentially one action packed set piece after another that will have you fighting everywhere from Washington DC to Siberia and everywhere in between.  Several of the missions involve the use of vehicles from snowmobiles to controlling UAV strikes via a laptop. The transition between cinematic and gameplay is not done as well as Uncharted 2, but single player is still a thrilling hard to put down experience that makes the game worth getting almost on single player experience alone.
Like single player, Modern Warfare 2′s multiplayer starts where the first’s left off and turns the experience up a notch. Multiplayer features a variety of modes including Capture The Flag, Demolition, Domination, Free-For-All, Search & Destroy, and Team Deathmatch. However, what really sets the game apart is it’s in depth experience system. As you gain experience in the Multiplayer you will gain access to the usual new weapons, equipment, and perks. However, certain kill streaks will unlock additional bonuses such as supply drops, UAV strikes, and even an AC-130 strike. Certain game modes also add a third party view option to spice things up a bit further. There is also cooperative multiplayer via the “Special Ops” missions. There have been some glitches and exploits with multiplayer that have tarnished things a bit, but the developers have been fairly quick in rolling out patches to fix these issues.
As one would expect, the graphics and sound are top notch. The controls are about as refined as you can get with the standard PS3 controller. In summary, Infinity Ward took the first game and basically improved upon every aspect of it. Sure the single player is still a bit on the short side, but if you like playing multipaler FPS at all, there is more than enough gameplay in the multiplayer portion to make up for it.
Scores
Graphics
Best graphics in the series so far. Arguably, only Uncharted 2 looks better this year.
Sound
The usually high production values that we expect from the Call of Duty series.
Gameplay
Modern Warfare 2 takes everything great about the first and refines it.
Controls
Nothing really new here, but everything works well.
Originality
Nothing overally original, just an extreamly well refined FPS.
Overall Single Player
A bit short, but a great experience while it lasts.
Overall Multiplayer
Lots of different modes and unlocks will keep you busy for a long time.
Reviewer’s Opinion
For the most part the game lives up to the hype. Slightly short single player and a few multiplayer glitches and exploits detract a bit, but the game is still overall well worth picking up.
